"Then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
2 Chronicles 7:14

God Appears to Solomon a Second Time (2 Chron. 7:12–22)

The passage.—Some time later after Solomon had finished his palace, God appeared to him again. This time God reaffirmed his promises made earlier. However, he revealed to Solomon that the promises were conditional. They were contingent on Israel’s faithfulness. He also said that, if Israel proved faithless, they would be exiled and the Temple destroyed.

Special points.—Verse 14 is probably the best known and most often quoted verse in all of 2 Chronicles. In this verse God outlines the conditions which Israel must fulfil if they are to know his blessings.

Truth for today.—One of the most marvelous truths to be found in all of the Old Testament is contained in verse 14. As we read this and apply it to Israel, we ought to realize that God still desires these traits in his people today. Those who wish to know fully the blessings of God must humbly turn from their sins. They must willingly yield themselves to God as they seek his face. When this is done, God’s blessings will be received. This is true of nations as well as individuals.
